The original Angel coin was issued during the reign of King Edward the IV in the 15th century. Its also referred to as the Lucky Angel due to its storied past. In 1984, the Pobjoy Mint collaborated with the Isle of Man and introduced a redesigned angel coin featuring the iconic image. The reverse features a depiction of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon, who is actually the devil in disguise.
The obverse is graced with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created for the exclusive use of the Pobjoy Mint. A right side portrait of her Majesty, crowned and wearing a pearl necklace and pearl earrings.
Perhaps most remarkably, for over 2 centuries, the Angel coin was issued each and every single year to the present day. Although some some years were only struck in silver.
