The 2022 Barbados coin is the second issue in the Spherical coin series. The theme focuses on the importance of keeping our world safe and clean. This beauty was struck by one of the world’s premiere mints, MDM. (Short for Münzhandelsgesellschaft mbH & Co.)
The spherical coin awarded the most Innovative coin of the year at the COTY Awards in 2020. Combined with a mintage of less than 3,000 coins has increased the value of these coins significantly.
This spherical coin does not have a typical obverse or reverse side. Theoretically, the obverse is considered the bottom of the ball-shaped coin which features the Barbados national coat of arms. A dolphin and pelican hold the National shield, which bears a fig tree, a helmet, and crossed sugarcane stalks.
The top of the ball shaped coin is designed to look like a green planet Earth. Design elements in a stunning blue enamel applied manually represent the oceans. The textured surface finished in a bright green enamel represents the continents.
The 2022 barbados spherical coin arrives in its original unopened outer box direct from the mint. It’s housed in a beautiful custom transparent display case visible on all sides. Also included is a numbered certificate of authenticity.
