Una was a character from a famous British poem, “The Fairie Queen.” The poem features a scene where Una gestures towards a lion. It was this scene that inspired famed artist William Wyon to create one of the most iconic coin designs.
The featured 2023 Una and the Lion is struck in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver with a satin finish. The British territory of Tristan da Cunha, once part of the island of St Helena, issued the coin. The Commonwealth mint struck the massive 48 mm coin with a fixed mintage.
Martin Jennings designed the first official portrait of King Charles II on the obverse. The reverse shows Una holding both an orb and scepter while walking alongside her guardian lion.
