The British adopted Britannia as their national symbol during the 18th century. However the original image was first struck by the Romans in the first century A.D.
The 2023 1 oz silver Britannia proof is absolutely stunning. The design was inspired by the popular 2017 anniversary “Chariot Edition”. The reverse depicts Britannia in a sea chariot pulled by horses with serpent-like characteristics. The obverse features the first official portrait of King Charles III designed by Martin Jennings.
The 2023 Britannia proof has a limited mintage of 3,400 coins. Struck in 1 oz of .999 fine silver, the coin is in a custom capsule and housed in the Royal Mint signature display box. Also included is a certificate of authenticity along with an information booklet.
