The 8-point cross is believed to have originated in the Byzantine era. The iconic image was adopted by Malta during the Middle Ages and is depicted on Malta’s coat of arms.
The cross consists of four V-shaped patterns converging at the vertex, resulting in a unique 8-pointed cross. Each of the 8 points represents the 8 virtues of the Maltese Knights.
The Maltese cross was struck in 1/10 oz of .9999 pure gold by the Pressburg mint. The obverse features the cross in intricate detail. A depiction of Malta’s coat of arms on the reverse.
