The 1838 Gobrecht silver dollar is one of the crown jewels in numismatics, with only 1900 struck in total. After it’s first production run, several issues arose, complicating its release. Gobrecht’s name was much too large and said to be in poor taste. In 1839, the silver content increased from 89.2 to 90, adding more problems. By 1940, the Seated Liberty, using the same obverse as Gobrechts, was chosen instead.

The featured 1838 Gobrecht Tribute round is struck by the Intaglio Mint in 2 troy oz. of.999 fine silver with a silky satin finish. Intagliois known for their 2 oz. silver ultra-high-relief piedforts of early US coins. The high relief brings out many of the intricate details that often go unnoticed on smaller designs.

Direct from the mint, the 1838 Gobrecht 2 oz silver tribute arrives in a new oversized capsule with foam washer keeping it nice and secured.
