The first gold Sovereign was struck in 1489 by order of King Henry VII and remained in circulation during the reigns of several Monarchs.
The Sovereign was redesigned by Benedetto Pistrucci and put back into circulation in 1817. The new design was extremely popular and regarded as one of the most beautiful coin design ever struck.
The Sovereign has remained in circulation for over two centuries. Aside from Jubilee and commemorative years, it still features the original St. George and the Dragon design.
The featured 2009 half gold sovereign is proof struck and absolutely remarkable. A special reverse design features a crown Atop The Shield of Royal Arms surrounded by a laurel wreath. The obverse is Graced with the fourth Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin arrives in the original capsule and housed in the Royal Mint clamshell display box along with the certificate of authenticity.
