The British adopted Britannia as their national symbol during the 18th century. However her story goes back Much longer. The first Britannia was struck on bronze coins by the Romans in the first century A.D. With numerous designs throughout the years, Britannia was depicted almost always with her trident and shield.

Prior to 2012, odd numbered years would feature different designs struck in extremely low numbers. Since 2012, Britannia has featured the same design by Philip Nathan with the purity increased to .999 fine.

The 2008 Britannia contains 1 troy oz of .958  pure silver in a lustrous finish. The obverse is graced with the 4th effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse features the present day image of Britannia. It first appeared in its second year of issue in 1998.

This 2008 Britannia is just as beautiful as ever and in remarkable condition. It arrives in a new Direct Fit capsule and includes its original assay card. It’s worth noting, in 2008, the coin originally came without a capsule, held in place on the assay card. The coin will not fit on the essay card encapsulated….      A real Beauty worthy for addition any coin collection.
