In 1953, an estimated three million people lined the streets of London to catch a glimpse of the procession, while millions more crowded around television sets to watch the grand event. For many, the Coronation represented the beginning of a hopeful new Elizabethan era.
To honor the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation in 2013, the Perth Mint released this stunning ¼ ounce gold coin in a proof finish. With a limited mintage of just 1000 coins, it became one of the most sought-after coins, selling out upon release.
The reverse features Her Majesty in ceremonial regalia, with the inscription 1953-2013 ANNIVERSARY OF CORONATION. The obverse features Ian Broadly’s effigy of the Queen along with the date and purity.
