In the 15th century, King Edward IV issued the Angel coin. Originally known as the Noble Angel, it replaced the gold Noble, which was the most widely used gold coin at the time.

The Angel coin was immensely popular due to widespread belief in its healing properties. Kings often held ceremonies where they gave the gold coin to the sick and disabled, believing it would cure tuberculosis, known as “king’s evil” at the time.


The Pobjoy Mint began producing the Angel coin in 1984 with a new design. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coin designs ever minted.

The featured 2014 Angel coin is struck in 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver by the Pobjoy mint. The coin’s reverse features an enhanced image of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The obverse bears an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

This beautiful coin is designated MS70 by NGC, the numismatic guarantee company. A grading of MS70 means that the coin is graded as a perfect brilliant uncirculated coin with zero imperfections.

The coin arrives encapsulated inside a sonically sealed acrylic holder with the label personally signed by the designer.
