It features a bold, close up image of a bald eagle, intricately detailed.Overwhelming demand for both the 2021 gold and silver Eagles caused a delay in the release of the newly designed coins. It made 2021 a historic year for the American Eagle coin in the world of numismatics.
Due to the delay, the original coin design continued to be issued during the first half of 2021. The new redesigned Eagles debuted in the late spring of 2021. It was one of only a few times in history that the same coin featured two different designs during the same year. The coins became known as Type 1 and Type 2.
