American Silver Eagle 1 oz American Silver Eagle 1 oz
The reason this is one of the most sought-after certified silver eagles is for several reasons. The original release of the new Silver Eagle was to begin in 2021. Due to a dwindling silver supply, covid restrictions, and a shortage of blanks, the release was delayed 6 months.
To meet demand, both the San Francisco and Philadelphia Mints began minting Silver Eagles. Of the 28,275,000 Silver Eagles struck in 2021, only 495,000 were struck in Philadelphia which makes them extremely rare.
Today, most mints are computerized and use robotics with an average of seven out of every 10 coins receive a MS70 grade. However, the Philadelphia mint continues to produce coins the old-fashioned way. Coins are handled and transferred by hand with an average of only 2 or 3 receiving an MS70 grade.
Although silver eagles were minted at all three mints, none of them have mintmarks. The certification label is the only way to tell if the coin was struck in Philadelphia. .
