The Masterpiece series celebrates one of the Royal Mints greatest engravers, William Wyon. The Three Graces was the first release of the series followed by Una and the Lion and the Gothic Crown.
The Three Graces was one of Wyons earlier design and was barely noticed at first. Its believed that less than 100 coins were struck. He designed the coin to celebrate the unification between England and Ireland.
The theme of the coin was inspired by Greek mythology, with the 3 Graces representing the daughters of Zeus. The 3 goddesses were capable of bestowing their virtues onto others as well as gifts for humanity.
