The 2022 Chinese 1 oz silver Long-whiskered Dragon dollar is the 4th release of an eight coin series “China’s most valuable coins”. The series celebrates the ancient Chinese dragon dollars. They were inspired by the Spanish dollar in the 17th century and were used to facilitate trade with other Asian countries.
Dragon dollars were also referred to as Kwangtung dollars named after the coastal town where they were struck, (Guangdong Province). They’re among the most sought after coins by collectors and coin enthusiasts alike.
A dragon in the contorted position is depicted on the obverse with a denomination of $1 in English letters. The reverse features 4 Hanzi characters that translate into “Silver coin of the great Qing Dynasty”. Manchu characters and floral motif are also on the reverse.
The 2019 China Long Whiskered Dragon contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver struck in high relief. The coins weight, year, and purity are laser inscribed along the coins edge.
