The gold sovereign was redesigned in 1817 and put back into circulation. It was of a few de facto reserve currencies at the time. Nations preferred the Sovereign over Ducats and other gold coins due to its size, beauty and popularity.
The new 2024 is as stunning as ever. The obverse is graced with the first official portrait of King Charles III. The reverse features the famous image of St George on horseback as he slays a dragon. It’s the original 1817 design by one of the greatest engravers, Benedetto Pistrucci.
The 2024 half gold sovereign Brilliant uncirculated is struck in 22 karat weighing 3.999 grams (actual gold content is 3.679 grams). Recently minted, this half sovereign is absolutely immaculate with no imperfections to the naked eye. It arrives in a new mint issued twist capsule and housed in a new Gaurdhouse glass-top display box in a teak finish.
