For more than 600 years, lucky British Angel coins have been treasured by millions. During the 15th century, King Edward IV introduced the Angel coin. Initially referred to as the Noble Angel, it superseded the gold Noble, which was the most commonly circulated gold coin of its era.
The Angel coin became extremely famous due to widespread belief in its healing qualities. Kings frequently staged ceremonies in which they distributed gold coins to the sick and disabled in the belief that it would cure tuberculosis, which was known as “King’s evil” at the time.
Over the years, the angel coin became known as the lucky angel, as it was believed to offer protection from harm. Soldiers oftencarried the angel coin into battle, cementing its legend as a good luck charm.
In 1984, the Isle of Man revitalized the Angel coin tradition with a new series featuring a rendition of the iconic image of Archangel Michael and the Dragon. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coin designs ever minted.
The featured 2024 Angel coin is proof struck in 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver by the Tower Mint. The coin’s reverse features an enhanced image of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The obverse bears an effigy of His Majesty, King Charles III.
The 2024 Silver Angel proof is absolutely stunning. The coin arrives encapsulated and housed in an elegant display box along with an outer sleeve. It also includes a numbered certificate of authenticity.
