The Maltese cross is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. The cross originated during the Crusades and was used by the Knights of St John during battle for identifying each other.
The famous cross was adopted by Malta during the Middle Ages. It was named after the small island as it came to be the home of the Knights of St John.
The cross consists of four v-shape patterns converging at the vertex, resulting in a unique 8 pointed cross. Each of the 8 points represent the Knights virtues; faith, humility, sincerity, and mercy are just a few.
