For more than 600 years, lucky British Angel coins have been treasured by millions. During the 15th century, King Edward IV introduced the Angel coin. Initially referred to as the Noble Angel, it superseded the gold Noble, which was the most commonly circulated gold coin of its era.
The Angel coin became extremely famous due to widespread belief in its healing qualities. Kings frequently staged ceremonies in which they distributed gold coins to the sick and disabled in the belief that it would cure tuberculosis, which was known as “King’s evil” at the time.
Over the years, the angel coin became known as the lucky angel, as it was believed to offer protection from harm. Soldiers oftencarried the angel coin into battle, cementing its legend as a good luck charm.
In 1984, the Isle of Man revitalized the Angel coin tradition with a new series featuring a rendition of the iconic image of Archangel Michael and the Dragon. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coin designs ever minted.
Struck by the Tower Mint, the 2025 Isle of Man One-Ounce Silver Angel Two-Piece Set consists of one coin with a proof finish and the other with a reverse proof finish.
Both coins are struck in 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver. The coin’s reverse features an enhanced image of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The obverse is graced with an effigy of His Majesty, King Charles III.
Each new 2025 Isle of Man Silver 1 oz Angel Proof 2-Coin Set arrives in an elegant display box with an outer sleeve along with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
