The Royal Mint has long been known for their superb craftsmanship, iconic designs, and industry-leading security features. Making history once again, the Royal Mint has just released the first-ever historic 1/3 oz gold Britannia with a fixed mintage.
Great Britain’s national symbol, Britannia, has graced British coins for centuries. In 1987, sculptor Philip Nathan created a new Britannia design that has since captivated millions around the globe. Today, it’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coins ever struck.
The Britannia’s design has remained unchanged since it debuted over 40 years ago. The new 2025 special edition Britannia has a fixed mintage and features a micro-engraved trident privy mark with the number “01” indicating these are the very first coins minted.
The new 2025 Britannia is struck in 1/3 oz .9999 pure gold by the Royal Mint. The obverse is graced with the first official portrait of King Charles III, designed by artist Martin Jennings.
The reverse side of the coin features the modern-day image of Britannia yielding a trident while her left hand rests on the Union Jack shield. Surface animations on the backfield mimic ocean waves with a slight tilt of the coin.
The Britannia is widely regarded as the most secure gold coin ever struck, with the latest innovative security features that make it virtually impossible to counterfeit.
-Precision tincture lines were added 200 times thinner than a human hair.
-A latent image that changes from a trident to a padlock with a coin tilt.
-The backfield’s surface animations simulate ocean waves.
-A Latin phrase is micro-engraved along the coin’s edge.
-The trident privy mark was added to commemorate the historic 1/3 oz Britannia coin.
