Ancient Chinese culture and mythology recognized dragons as a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune. Contrary to Western folklore, which portrays dragons as vicious and demonic, Eastern folklore sees them as divine guardians.
The 2024 French lunar dragon proof contains 1 troy oz of .999 pure silver. The coin is struck in ultra-high relief by the prestigious Monnaie de Paris.
The obverse depicts a dragon emerging from a traditional Chinese temple door depicted on the reverse side of the coin. Traditional Chinese motifs surround it, accompanied by the date and description “Year of the Dragon.”
The reverse features a 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac calendar, starting in 2018. Each of the 12 lunar animals encircles a traditional Chinese temple door. Above the door is the French RF monogram.
