The 8-point cross is believed to have originated in the Byzantine era. The iconic image was worn by the Knights of Malta on their coat of arms and adopted by Malta during the Middle Ages.
The cross consists of four v-shaped patterns converging at the vertex, resulting in a unique 8 pointed cross. Each of the eight points represent the virtues of the Maltese Knights.
The Maltese cross coin was struck in 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver by the Pressburg mint. The obverse features the Maltese cross with radial lines surrounding the cross. The reverse features a depiction of the Maltese coat of arms.
Each coin comes direct from the mint in remarkable condition housed in a new airtight capsule.
