The 20-gold-franc Gold Angel coin was created in 1792 by famed engraver Augustine Dupree. The gold Angel was first issued for just 2 years in 1848 and 1849. In 1871, the gold Angel was reissued and remained in circulation until 1898.

It’s widely believed that the coin has a protective force and has become known as an emblem of luck. During World War II, fighter pilots from France, Britain, and the United States carried the coins into battle with them.
