The Britannia debuted in 1997 with a beautiful design by Philip Nathan. The featured 2005 is also the work of Philip Nathan and features a seated Britannia in classical garb.
The British adopted Britannia as a national symbol during the 18th century. However her story goes back much further. Britannia was first struck by the Romans on bronze coins in the first century AD.
Prior to 2012, odd numbered years featured different designs of Britannia
struck in low numbers. Since 2012, each brilliant uncirculated Britannia has featured the original design by Philip Nathan.
The 2005 Britannia contains 1 troy ounce of .958 fine silver in a satin finish. The obverse side of the coin is graced with the an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse side features a seated Britannia wearing the Corinthian helmet yielding both the trident and Union Jack Shield.
