In 2017, a special edition was minted for the Krugerrands 50th anniversary. To the delight of collectors around the world, the South African Krugerrand was struck in silver for the first time. The obverse features a right profile portrait of South Africa’s first President, Paul Kruger. The reverse features a springbok antelope, native to South Africa.
In 2018 at an event in China, 5000 special edition Krugerrands were struck featuring the Great Wall of China privy mark. The coins were released at an expo in Beijing by LPM, one of Asia’s largest bullion distributors. The 2018 “Great Wall” Krugerrand is considered the only key date of the series.
