The gold sovereign was redesigned in 1817 and put back into circulation. For just over a century, it was the de facto reserve currency. Nations preferred the Sovereign over Ducats and other gold coins due to its size and popularity.

The obverse of the 2019  Gold Sovereign is graced with the 5th Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse features the famous image of St George on a horseback as he slays a dragon. The image was designed by one of the greatest artist and engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci.

The image on the reverse has remained unchanged for over 200 years. The featured 2019 gold sovereign proof  is struck in 22 karat and weighs 7.9 grams with (actual gold content 7.3 grams) . Absolutely pristine and in remarkable condition. It arrives in a new direct fit capsule and housed in a black leatherette display box.
