The Isle of Man is one of the smallest island nations in the world with a population estimated around 85,000 as of 2023. Despite its small size, the Isle of Man has issued some of the most unique silver and gold coins over the years.
In the 15th century, King Edward IV issued the Angel coin. Originally known as the Noble Angel, it replaced the gold Noble which was the most widely used gold coin at the time.
The Angel coin was immensely popular due to widespread belief in its healing properties. Kings often held ceremonies where they gave the gold coin to the sick and disabled, believing it would cure tuberculosis, known as “King’s evil” at the time.
The Pobjoy Mint began producing the Angel coin in 1984 with a new design. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coins designs ever minted.
The featured 2024 Angel coin is proof struck in 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver by the Tower mint. The coin’s reverse features an enhanced image of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The obverse bears an effigy of his majesty, King Charles III.
Direct from the mint, the coin is in Immaculate condition. Mintage was set at just 1000 coins with the featured being the 23rd coin struck. This beautiful gem arrives encapsulated and housed in an elegant display box with an outer sleeve. It also includes a numbered certificate of authenticity.
