Though they might not be the largest of the big cats, they are certainly among the most powerful. Reaching speeds of 45 miles an hour and capable of jumping as high as 50 ft, the cougar has extraordinary neck muscles. Combined with their claws, they’re able to carry prey twice their body weight up a tree.
The featured 2024 great hunters cougar is absolutely remarkable. The coin is struck in ultra-high relief by famed artist Emily Damstra. Her attention to the smallest detail along with the high relief seems to bring this cougar to life.
The coin’s obverse bears Canada’s first official portrait of his majesty, King Charles III. The reverse features a stealthy cougar coming down a mountainside on the hunt for its next meal.
