In ancient Asian culture, dragons were mythical creatures that symbolized power, wealth and good fortune. It was believed that those born in the year of the dragon would enjoy a life of good fortune and wealth.
The obverse features to Eastern dragons coiled around that form the Figure 8 position. Along the edge, the inscription Year of the Dragon is topped off with ruby inserted in place of the letter O. The reverse features the Republic of Cameroon coat of arms.
