The Isle of Man is one of the smallest island nations in the world with a population estimated around 85,000 as of 2023. Despite its small size, the Isle of Man has issued some of the most unique silver and gold coins over the years.\
In the 15th century, King Edward IV issued the Angel coin. Originally known as the Noble Angel, it replaced the gold Noble which was the most widely used gold coin at the time.
The Angel coin was immensely popular due to widespread belief in its healing properties. Kings often held ceremonies giving gold Angel coins to the sick and disabled, believing it would cure tuberculosis, a disease known as “King’s evil” at the time.
The Pobjoy Mint began minting the Angel coin in 1984 with a new design. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coin designs ever minted.
The 2024 Angel coin is struck in 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver by the Pobjoy mint. The coin’s reverse features an enhanced image of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The obverse bears an effigy of his majesty, King Charles III.
