The Isle of Man Angel coin was issued during the reign of King Edward IV in 1465. Also referred to as the Lucky Angel, the coin’s popularity and mystique are due to its storied past.
For centuries, there have been stories of people miraculously escaping death while carrying the Angel coin. The Angel coin is also popular due to widespread belief in its healing properties.
During the Medieval Ages, kings often held ceremonies (touching for the king’s evil) with the belief that touching the coin would cure tuberculosis, known as “king’s evil” at the time.
