A trident is a long, 3-pronged spear typically used to spear fish, yet it was also used as a weapon in ancient times. A broken trident head is the Barbados national symbol and is prominently displayed on the Barbados flag. The broken head represents Barbados’ break from colonial rule.
The 2021 Barbados Trident is the fifth year of its release. It’s struck in 1/5 oz of .9999 pure gold. Barbados’ coat of arms is on the obverse. The reverse features the famous Trident head with an ever-changing backfield. A variety of different elements and visual effects are added to the backfield, giving it an entirely new look each year.
With a limited mintage of only 5,000 coins, they’re not that easy to come by, especially in remarkable condition. Absolutely pristine, the coin arrives encapsulated and housed in a new Guardhouse cedar wood display box.
