Una was a character from a famous British poem, “The Faerie Queene.” In a scene from the poem, Una is shown pointing the way forward to a lion. Famed artist William Wyon designed the original Una and the Lion struck on the 1839 gold coin from the Royal Mint.
2023 is the 4th release of the series. The obverse is graced with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse features a new design by engraver Glyn Davies, capturing the beauty of Una and the raw power of the lion.
